Larry and His Flask

What a show!!!! Such a good time partying with Larry and His Flask acouple weeks ago at The Pyramid here in Winnipeg, MB. This band has an intensity that cannot be matched. From the strum of the first chord they are going MACH 5 and do not slow down until the crowd is covered in as much sweat as they are. Now if you have never heard LAHF some of the pictures might mislead as to what their sound is. They are a country/bluegrass band with a pinch of punk rock speed and attitude mixed in they have been likened to Old Man Markley (Fat Wreck)

One of the most interesting things about LAHF is yes they have a drummer but he STANDS the whole time!!! Now I don't know of many drummers that have that kind of stamina do you? The other thing that is great about this band is everyone is sporting a beard and boy oh boy are these are some amazingly bearded boys. Aside from their physical appearance their mixture of country bluegrass and punk rock is simply incredible. This is one band you don't want to miss such amazing stage presence and energy no one can match what they are doing right now... Well maybe some hillbilly squirrels on speed.

The Black Keys

I know its been awhile hey? Well here it is.....The Black Keys.
I had the chance to shoot this great group afew weeks ago. I did have my reservations though. I have never been nor will I ever be a fan of 2 piece bands. With that being said though The Black Keys really impressed me. They started with the full band and about 5 songs in they stripped it down to just the two piece line up that made them famous. With only a guitar and drum on stage it was remarkably full sounding. I didnt miss hearing the bass player or even keyboard player in the background.

If you are going to see a "show" or "spectacle" you will be let down completely. This band just comes out and rocks hard, no audience pandering just getting right down to playing their bluesy, soulful jams. Now the MTS centre would not be my first choice to see this band I would much prefer something smaller and more intimate like a small shitty jazz or blue club but I cannot ever see that happening in the near future. If you get a chance to see them play live take it! If you get a chance to see them in a smaller setting tell me and we can go together!!
